- Is my data secure?
-
The privacy of our members and the security of their data is our top priority and we have industry-standard security procedures in place to ensure no-one views your confidential information without your express consent.
When you create a Dekasu profile, your data is transmitted from your computer to our server using an encrypted transmission (SSL), which is how e-commerce and online banking transactions are securely transmitted. You will be able to see the data transmission is secure because your browser will display a padlock or security symbol and the address bar in your browser will start with "https" rather "http".
Once your data is on our server, it is protected by industry standard data security protocols. Backup copies of your data will be securely held in fully encrypted form at our offsite locations in the UK, where it will not be accessed by anyone who has not been security vetted. Only a very few Dekasu staff are able to access our database in unencrypted form and they follow very strict security protocols to ensure the confidentiality of your private information.
All amendments or upgrades to the Dekasu website are made on a copy of the system, which only contains test data, so your private data will never be seen by development teams or third party suppliers.
Our guiding principles are:
- We will never sell or give your email address to anyone else without your express permission
- Your career and contact details will always remain confidential until you choose to release them
Dekasu is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK and strictly complies with the Data Protection Act. For more information, go to www.ico.gov.uk.

- Can I find a job on Dekasu.com?
-
If you're looking for a new challenge or career opportunity, you can allow prospective employers to come to you with jobs that require your specific expertise and experience.
Just set your profile so that potential employers can match the skills they need with the talents and specialist skills you have to offer. If your expertise meets an employer's criteria, the employer may then make an introductory approach to you via email. But your name and career history will always remain hidden to the employer unless you choose to respond.
If you are interested in the position and choose to reveal your details to the employer, you can highlight the strengths and experience you'd like the employer to focus on, by tailoring your career history and controlling what the employer can and can't see about you.
You can also set up your profile so that specific companies will not contact you. And if you're happy in your current position, but there's a particular role you've always hankered after, you can set your profile so that you'll only be contacted by employers with a vacant position that meets the exact criteria of your dream job.
Potential employers we have spoken to have been very enthusiastic about the prospect of finding candidates with the exact skills and expertise they need using our database. So if you are seeking a fresh challenge, rather than trawling through job sites and job boards, just join Dekasu and prospective employers could come to you.

- What is mentoring?
- Mentoring is where a more experienced individual (the mentor) coaches and advises an aspiring individual (the mentee) on how to navigate their career and develop themselves. This can be a medium to longer term arrangement, and can be either informal, or in more "institutional" and officially recognised by an employer. Often the relationship is engineered to help the mentee become effective rapidly in a new role, one that the mentor may have experience of themselves. The relationship is typically based on mutual trust and respect, and takes the form of challenging discussion, followed up with a list of actions to be taken. Dekasu helps to facilitate this relationship by providing a simple but structured way of documenting discussions and capturing progress against agreed actions. Back to top
- How do I find a mentor?
- There are some individuals and organisations that offer professional mentoring services (usually for a fee) who can be of great benefit if they have the knowledge and experience you need. We have future plans to develop independent mentor/mentee search facilities. However, in most cases a mentee already knows the person they think would make an ideal mentor, as they will have worked with them directly, or will know them through their employer. If you are looking for a mentor, Dekasu's mentoring system will help guide you through some of the questions that you need to answer to make sure that a) mentoring is right for you, and b) that you are making a sound choice of mentor. Once you are signed in, follow the "Mentoring" link on the navigation bar to get started. Back to top
- Does the site work using Internet Explorer 6?
- Yes, it does, but as Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) is such an old browser, you may find that some of the screens will load slowly. We understand that a reasonable number of people still use IE6 to browse with, but we suggest you upgrade to IE7 or IE8, as these have much better security protection than IE6. You can read more about the risks of using IE6 here [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_6#Security_issues]. Graphically, the site is best viewed in one of the newer browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari. You may also find these browsers will load pages more quickly as well, and are believed to offer good security. If you cannot upgrade from IE6 for some reason, you may find that Google Chrome Frame plug-in for IE[code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe] offers much better performance, although we have not tested this product.
